Gargantua 1.

I posted this a while ago and have recently found many more images in storage so I thought it would be fun to post more of this as it was a great job to do and we had a lot of fun building this model.

There is a great deal joy in building large complicated models to be blown up. This was a copy of an actual location that was reasonably close to the workshop so we went out there and documented every part of it.

We did spend many weeks putting this jetty model together. It is all made out of individual planks of balsa wood because it is easy to texture and we had many to do to match the original location.

We went all out matching details as close as we could because none of us knew at that time, how close the location and our miniature would be filmed and had to match.

Once hero shots were done....

.... it was taken out to a paddock, set up on tables and blown to bits. This is the other main reason why it was individual planks so we could get lots of debris flying in all directions.

With the jetty, we built a large section of the homes and shops that were not used in the end.

Also was detailing the shore line such as this boat and several others, again not used.
